Data Connection Scheme of 100G QSFP28 Optic Transceiver

100G QSFP28 Optic Transceiver is used in data center, but it can not transmit data only by a 100G QSFP28 Optic Transceiver. In this case, 100G QSFP28 Optic Transceiver should combine with jumper to form 100G QSFP28 AOC or 100G QSFP28 DAC to transmit data. So, how to choose 100G QSFP28 AOC/DAC in data connection scheme formed by 100G QSFP28 Optic Transceiver and jumper? How can we choose a cost-effective connection scheme? The following points can be seen:

1. Inside the rack wiring: 1-5 meters

100G QSFP28 DAC high-speed cables include QSFP28 to QSFP28 DAC and QSFP28 to 4xSFP28 DAC. Their ideal range of use is within 5m. 100G QSFP28 DAC is an ideal solution for 100G short distance connection instead of 100G Optic Transceiver. If your 100GbE network is deployed in a 5m rack, 100G QSFP28 DAC passive high-speed cable is very suitable for you.

2. Multimode Optical Fiber Wiring Between Switches: 5-100m

There are two options for 100 GbE cabling using multimode optical fibers between switches. One is to use 100G QSFP28 AOC active optical cable which is most suitable for 3-20 meters. Another option is to use 100G QSFP28 SR4 Optic Transceiver and 12-core MTPOM3/OM4 optical fiber jumper.

3. Single-mode optical fiber wiring between switches: > 100m-2km

A distance of more than 100 meters but less than 2 kilometers is usually called a medium distance. For most large data center operators, it is their best choice to be able to meet the medium and long distance 100 GbE solution with low cost. The 100G PSM4 QSFP28 Optic Transceiver and 100G CWDM4/CLR4 QSFP28 Optic Transceiver are suitable for medium and long distance 100G applications.

4. Long-mode single-mode fibers: <10km

For ultra-long 100GbE networks, such as the connection between two buildings, the distance is up to 10 kilometers. QSFP28-100G-LR4 Optic Transceiver with LC duplex interface is the best choice for IEEE definition. It is usually used with single mode optical fibers.
